Surf Rats

Last night, i went to see my old mate Terry playing with a local band, the Surf Rats, in a hall behind a pub, just round the corner from home. When i walked into the hall i thought i’d accidentally stumbled into an old folks variety evening or something – but then i realised, strewth! these people are probably about the same age as me! There were a few faces i recognised from when i was a kid in this area.

I guess when the wind’s in the east and there’s a gale blowing, the waters of the river estuary could be encouraged to ripple a bit, but i’ve never seen anything you could mistake for surf in these parts! … Read more »

My first blog at SnapAndScribble.com

I’ve finally managed to set up some blog software on my own site. It’s not really configured the way i want it yet, but it will be soon. At the moment, i’m afraid, it looks a bit boring. But i’ll be sorting it out over the next day or two.

Since my last blog post (on a site owned by the evil Rupert Murdoch! ;-) ) i’ve been flat out teaching myself about web publishing and how to make decent web pages. … Read more »

New Career?

I’ve just about given up bashing my head against a brick wall, trying to find a decent job in this ludicrously expensive country. And, no, i’m not going back to Australia. Not yet, anyway!

As it’s practically impossible to find a job around here i’ve decided i’m going to have to create my own job. I’ve been putting content on the web for over ten years now – and only making other people rich by doing it. Now i’m going to start trying to make money myself from putting stuff up on web sites. … Read more »

Job

I need to find a job, but i’m not quite sure where to look. Part of the problem is i’m not quite sure what i want to do. The other part is that there’s not a lot of work around here, and what there is is mostly really badly paid (specially when you compare it to the extortionate cost of living!)

I got my certificate thingo from TAFE the other day, so i’ve now got a Cert III in Horticulture (Arboriculture), and i can call myself a qualified arborist if i want! I wouldn’t mind finding some work in that field, but i don’t really want to work doing tree lopping etc. I enjoy that work (although in this country in winter it might not be much fun!), but it’s not very well paid for the level of danger and the hardness of the work – and i’m a bit old to start a career as a climber, anyway. … Read more »

Cardboard Honeycomb

It’s been a while since i posted a blog last – mainly because there hasn’t been anything particularly exciting to post about, i guess.

Christmas and new year have come and gone in that time and now it seems to be well into January!

Christmas was good. There were only 18 of us at my sister’s place this year though – which is a couple less than last year, as far as i remember. The meal was good – chaotic and crowded, of course, because Lucy’s place isn’t very big – but it was entertaining and the food was good. Later on, though, i got a bit bored of sitting around listening to drunks talking shit, so i went out for a walk. … Read more »
