Belfast

I’m in an internet place in Belfast, so i thought i’d scribble off a quick blog post!

It turned really cold and windy the night before last – and there were a few flakes of snow yesterday afternoon, which is a bit of a worry! So it’s not the best weather for getting out and about.

On Wednesday, we drove to Strangford in the afternoon. We left a lot later than i would have liked – because the old girls don’t seem to be able to get moving very early in the day. Well, Ethna probably could, but it’s virtually impossible to get mum out of the house before mid-afternoon!

Anyway, it was a pleasant enough drive, and Strangford’s a beautiful spot. But the bitterly cold weather didn’t encourage me to spend as long outside as i would have liked.

Strangford is a small ferry port at the southern end of Strangford Lough – which is the biggest sea lough in the British isles, apparently. The ferry goes across to Portaferry, which is on the other side of the narrow neck of water that joins the lough to the Irish sea.

Last time we came to visit Ethna, in the summer of 04, we went across on the ferry, but this time all Ethna and mum wanted to do was go and sit indoors, somewhere warm. I guess i could have hopped on the boat and gone across myself – just for the ride – but it didn’t occur to me at the time.

Instead, i had a walk around the water’s edge, and took a few photos – which i can’t include here, because this stupid internet place doesn’t allow me to connect a flash stick to this computer. But i’ll post one or two soon.

We may go out again this afternoon, i’m not sure. It depends on whether Ethna wants to brave the cold. I’d like to go to the coast, as it’s really beautiful in this part of Ireland, but we’ll see i suppose.
