Done – Well, Sort Of!
I made it! Just about. Well, more or less, anyway…
I went down to the Maningrida barge landing and made sure they’d take my stuff and found out how long i had. The bloke said about an hour. Phew. Then i raced up to the council office and hunted around some places i hadn’t hunted last night. Fortunately, i turned up a roll of packing tape – but there wasn’t much left on it. I also grabbed a roll of fairly skinny sticky tape – which was a bit wider than the ones i found last night.
Then, back at home, i had to make a box from another, much bigger box – because the remaining things i had to pack were too big to fit in any boxes i’d found. I was glad i had the packing tape, because it was really thick cardboard and it would have been next to impossible with the other tape. It didn’t quite stretch to finishing it though, and i had to wrap a couple of dimensions of the box round and round and round and round with the skinny tape. It was a bodgy box, but it was a box.
I numbered all the boxes and chucked them on the back of the ute and drove back to the barge landing. There, i had to stack all my boxes into a small container on the dockside and fill in a form saying what i was shipping. Hopefully, i’ll be able to pick it all up from their depot in Darwin on Monday.
I got back home by seven o’clock – and finished my breakfast!
Of course, my house looks like a bomb’s hit it now. And there’s still quite a few odds and ends that i’ve got to sort out and maybe take with me. And some tools – saws and large sharp things – that somehow got forgotten last weekend. They’re not that big and don’t weigh too much, so i’ll have to try and take them on the plane. Or maybe i’ll post them…
